New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) India’s tablet market has experienced a remarkable upswing in 2024, achieving a 25 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth, according to a report released on Thursday.
This impressive growth was primarily fueled by a dramatic increase in 5G tablet shipments, which skyrocketed by 424 percent compared to the previous year.
Leading the Indian tablet market in 2024, Apple captured a 29 percent market share, closely followed by Samsung at 28 percent and Lenovo at 16 percent, as reported by CyberMedia Research (CMR).
For the first time in a single year, Apple achieved a significant milestone by shipping over one million iPads in India.
However, during the fourth quarter of 2024, Samsung emerged as the top player with a 29 percent share, while Lenovo secured 23 percent and Apple followed at 21 percent.
According to Menka Kumari, Senior Analyst–Industry Intelligence Group (IIG) at CMR, “India’s tablet market is experiencing a notable transition towards premiumization, with the premium segment (priced above Rs 20,000) witnessing exceptional growth.”
The demand for premium tablets also saw substantial growth, with shipments rising by 128 percent in 2024, the report highlighted.
As hybrid work, digital learning, and on-the-go entertainment gain popularity, premium tablets have become a significant growth driver.
Apple retained its leadership in this segment, largely due to the success of the iPad 10 Series, which constituted 55 percent of Apple’s overall shipments.
Moreover, the anticipated launch of the iPad Mini (2024) is expected to bolster Apple’s market position further.
Samsung also remained a formidable competitor, achieving a 53 percent YoY growth.
The Galaxy Tab A9 Plus 5G was instrumental in its success, accounting for 68 percent of the company’s total tablet shipments.
Lenovo, in the third position, relied on its Tab M11 Series and M10 Gen 3 models to sustain consistent demand.
Xiaomi made a notable impact in the tablet sector, capturing a 13 percent share and achieving an impressive 112 percent YoY growth.
The Xiaomi Pad 6 excelled in the premium segment, representing 33 percent of premium tablet sales in 2024.
Looking forward, CMR anticipates that the tablet market in India will continue to grow steadily, with an expected increase of 10-15 percent in 2025.
