Indian Experts at the Forefront of the Global South in Embracing Emerging Technologies like AI: A New Report

New Delhi, Dec 9 (NationPress) With more than 70 percent of Indian professionals actively pursuing avenues to upskill in emerging technologies like AI, India stands at the forefront of the Global South in embracing technological advancements, as highlighted in a report published on Monday.

The report, issued by the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC), recognized as the leading platform for workforce development and labor market insights, indicated that while global trust in governmental support for upskilling is low at 20 percent, confidence among Indian respondents is relatively higher at 31 percent, with respondents from Saudi Arabia even higher at 35 percent.

Concerns regarding the necessity for reskilling due to rapid technological changes resonate with Indian workers, with 55 percent expressing fears that their current skills may become either partially or completely obsolete in the forthcoming five years, aligning India with global trends.

As per the report, India's proactive approach towards upskilling (at 55 percent) over the next five years stands in stark contrast to more developed markets, such as the US (51 percent), UK (44 percent), and Australia (49 percent), where fewer employees reported a pressing need to reskill due to technological shifts.

Looking ahead, respondents from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, including India, identified cognitive skills (54 percent) and STEM capabilities (38 percent) as crucial for success in a technology-oriented economy.

The report further emphasizes that climate change significantly motivates the need for upskilling or reskilling in India, with 32 percent of respondents acknowledging it as a contributing factor influencing their reskilling choices in the next five years.

Overall, the report highlights India's essential role in the Global South's adaptation to AI and automation, showcasing the country's workforce as leaders in skill enhancement and technological integration.

“The dynamic nature of India’s job market, where AI, machine learning, and automation are becoming integral, propels this proactive approach,” the report concluded.
