Under the Timetable of Trains (TAG) 2026, Indian Railways has launched new train services, expanded existing ones, increased the frequency, upgraded trains to Superfast, and improved service speeds across different railway zones.
In the Central Railway (CR) zone, 4 new trains have been launched, 6 services have been extended, and 30 trains have had their speeds increased. The East Coast Railway (ECOR) has also introduced 4 new trains, extended 4 services, and sped up 3 trains, as stated by the Ministry of Railways.
The East Central Railway (ECR) has seen a notable expansion with 20 new trains, 20 extended services, and 12 trains speeded up. Meanwhile, the Eastern Railway (ER) has introduced 6 new trains, extended 4, and increased the speed of 32 trains.
The North Central Railway (NCR) has added 2 new trains, extended 4 services, increased the frequency of 2 trains, and sped up 1 train. The North Eastern Railway (NER) has introduced 8 new trains, extended 4, increased frequency for 2, and sped up 12 trains.
Over at the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), 10 new trains have been introduced, along with 36 trains being speeded up. The Northern Railway (NR) has launched 20 new trains, extended 10 services, and sped up 24 trains, while the North Western Railway (NWR) has added 12 new trains, extended 6, increased frequency for 2, and speeded up 89 trains.
In the Southern Railway (SR) zone, 6 new trains have been introduced, 4 extended, 2 converted to superfast, and 75 trains speeded up. The South Western Railway (SWR) has introduced 8 new trains, extended 6, converted 8 to superfast, and speeded up 117 trains, marking the highest increase among all zones.
The West Central Railway (WCR) has introduced 8 new trains and 27 trains have been speeded up. Finally, the Western Railway (WR) has introduced 10 new trains, extended 10, increased frequency for 2, and speeded up 80 trains.
“In total, under TAG 2026, 122 new trains were launched, 86 trains were extended, there were 8 frequency increases, 10 trains were converted to superfast, and 549 trains were speeded up across the Indian Railways,” the ministry reported.
This acceleration of 549 trains across various zones aims to enhance punctuality, operational efficiency, and connectivity, thereby delivering faster and more reliable rail services nationwide, the statement added.
