New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) On Saturday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Indian Railways achieved remarkable performance during the fiscal year 2025–26, setting a new record in freight loading while enhancing passenger services, infrastructure, safety protocols, and digital advancements. The freight transportation reached an impressive 1,670 million tonnes, marking a historic milestone.
This growth underscores Indian Railways' capacity to manage essential commodities like coal, cement, fertilizers, and food grains, vital for maintaining crucial supply chains.
The Union Minister also pointed out the significant advancements, including record freight and passenger metrics, the expansion of Vande Bharat services with new sleeper variants, and improvements in safety and infrastructure.
According to Minister Vaishnaw, rail operations have remained strong, with approximately 25,000 trains operating daily.
To accommodate peak demand periods, additional special trains were introduced to improve passenger comfort and accessibility.
From a manufacturing perspective, Indian Railways produced 1,674 locomotives and 6,677 LHB coaches, reinforcing its commitment to the 'Make in India' initiative while enhancing safety and travel comfort.
Passenger services underwent further modernization with the introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, complementing the existing Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat services for long-distance journeys.
Safety initiatives accelerated with the rollout of the indigenous Kavach Automatic Train Protection System, which is now operational over 3,100 route kilometers, with plans for implementation on an additional 24,400 kilometers.
Digital transformation continued to be a priority, highlighted by the launch of the RailOne App in July 2025. This app provides a comprehensive platform for ticket booking, train inquiries, and grievance redress.
Transparency initiatives led to the removal of over 3.04 crore suspicious user accounts.
Infrastructure advancements persisted with the inauguration of 35 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals and the redevelopment of 119 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Connectivity improvements were also made in key areas, including the extension of rail links to Aizawl (Mizoram) and enhanced all-weather access to Jammu and Kashmir.
