Mumbai, Feb 12 (NationPress) The augmented reality (AR) developer community in India has expanded by more than 50 percent over the last two years, making it the leading country in terms of AR lenses globally, according to Snap Inc.
With over 200 million Snapchatters in India utilizing the platform for visual expression, connections, and content enjoyment, AR has become integral to communication and creativity, stated Pulkit Trivedi, Managing Director of Snap Inc. in India.
“The fact that Snapchatters engage with AR Lenses over 80 billion times monthly showcases the power of creative expression, and we are eager to continue supporting and celebrating this innovation,” he remarked at the second annual 'India AR Day' event.
Bobby Murphy, Chief Technology Officer of Snap Inc, emphasized the company's commitment to nurturing creativity and self-expression through AR advancements in India.
“Indian developers are leading the charge in innovation, crafting engaging and creative experiences. Notably, India boasts the highest number of lenses published on Snapchat among all countries,” he noted.
“India is a remarkable place where AR is woven into everyday life. The country is bursting with creative energy, and AR serves not just as a source of entertainment but as a channel for cultural expression,” Murphy added.
Pulkit Trivedi reiterated, “India is home to a vibrant community of creators and developers who are pioneering the future of AR.
The event in Mumbai gathered top AR creators, developers, brands, partners, and the broader community.
Snap's fifth-generation see-through AR glasses, Spectacles, were showcased for the first time in India. These standalone, see-through AR glasses powered by Snap OS allow users to interact with AR in novel ways.
In India, where over 85 percent of Snapchatters utilize Lenses to connect with family and friends, especially during significant cultural events and festivals, the emphasis on creative expression is clear, according to the company.
Snap's AR ecosystem is thriving, with over 375,000 creators globally having developed more than 4 million AR Lenses, which Snapchatters have engaged with more than 4.5 trillion times in the past year.
“India’s AR developer community is exceptional, with the growth of the creator network spanning not only capital cities but also smaller towns such as Goraya, Prayagraj, and Cochin,” the company reported.
Snap also highlighted its commitment to enhancing AR adoption throughout India, including in tier 2 and 3 cities.
