India's Aviation Sector Boosted by New Centre of Excellence Proposal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 30 (NationPress) Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw proposed the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to concentrate on advanced manufacturing technologies essential for the aviation, railways, and marine industries.
He emphasized that such initiatives would enhance students' readiness for the job market and expand employment prospects.
This proposal was unveiled during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between GSV and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The agreement's goal is to fortify India's burgeoning maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector by advancing training and cultivating a proficient workforce.
In his remarks, Vaishnaw highlighted that industries like aviation and railways demand a high degree of technical accuracy, making industry-focused courses vital for adequately preparing students.
He underscored the importance of adhering to international standards in developing these programs, projecting that around 1,000 students could gain from such opportunities annually.
Vaishnaw also assured that financial backing would be secured to bring this vision to fruition.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu noted that India's aviation sector is expanding rapidly at a rate of 10–12 percent each year, with expectations for continued growth over the next 15 years.
He pointed to developments such as expanding airports, increasing passenger traffic, and a growing aircraft fleet, asserting that this growth necessitates a skilled workforce that aligns with global standards.
Naidu also mentioned the construction of Jewar Airport as an indication of swift infrastructure development.
He stated that GSV embodies the government's vision of integrating various transport sectors, including railways, aviation, and logistics, which have historically operated independently.
Furthermore, he indicated that the aviation sector now encompasses more than just passenger travel, extending to areas like MRO, training, and domestic manufacturing, which contribute to the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Under the MoU, GSV and DGCA will collaboratively develop a three-year B.Sc. program in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME), designed to merge academic instruction with industry needs and regulatory requirements.
The course aims to cultivate a skilled workforce prepared to address the demands of the aviation sector.
