New Delhi, Oct 5 (NationPress) Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized on Sunday that it is crucial for the nation to develop indigenous technological capabilities amid the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.
The minister called upon the Indian industry to embrace 'Atmanirbhar innovation' instead of relying on imitation during the 4th Kautilya Economic Conclave in the national capital.
“AI should not merely be considered a consumable product but rather a Swadeshi capability that needs nurturing,” Scindia asserted, emphasizing that AI should be crafted in Indian languages and aligned with Indian priorities, rather than being perceived as an imported solution. He referenced the Bhashini app as a real-world example of AI translation that empowers citizens in real-time.
While discussing India’s rising strengths in sectors such as semiconductors, telecom, and digital finance, Scindia pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the strategic significance of chips in the global economy. He referred to semiconductors as “the very fabric of future progress for humanity.”
He underscored that India turned this challenge into an opportunity, guided by the ancient wisdom of Chanakya, who counseled on asking ‘why, what, and how’ before action.
“We learned from the COVID pandemic that the fate of billion-dollar companies hinges on a small chip. For India, it was a moment of choice, not despair,” the minister remarked.
Scindia highlighted India’s Rs 76,000 crore India Semiconductor Mission, which encompasses establishing fabrication units across various states and training 85,000 youth. Investments in this sector have already surpassed Rs 1.6 lakh crore, positioning India as a self-reliant and future-ready economy.
India has established itself as a pivotal force for the Global South, representing fairness and equity, and serving as a bridge between fragmented geopolitical blocs, he concluded.
