New Delhi, Aug 15 (NationPress) Ashok Chandak, the President of IESA and SEMI India, emphasized on Friday that the momentum for semiconductor manufacturing is set to escalate with the forthcoming ‘SEMICON India 2025’ conference.
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day address, he stated that the future is being constructed in India.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the nation is advancing its semiconductor initiatives in mission mode. Currently, six distinct semiconductor units are being established, with approvals granted for four new facilities,” PM Modi noted.
He added that by the end of 2025, ‘Made in India’ chips will be available in the marketplace.
Chandak remarked, “From two decades of advocacy to today’s national focus, semiconductors have transitioned from mere industry aspirations to a fundamental element of India’s growth narrative and strategic relevance.”
“We commend the vision and dedication of the Government of India and State Governments, the India Semiconductor Mission, MietY, IESA and SEMI members, industry leaders, academia, start-ups, and every stakeholder who has tirelessly contributed to our progress,” he continued.
“The road ahead is even more promising — enhancing capabilities, fostering innovation, and positioning India as a reliable global semiconductor powerhouse. Anticipation will build during SEMICON India 2025, set for September 2-4, where global CxOs will shape technological advancements. The production of Made-in-India chips will commence this year with ten projects valued at $22 billion already in motion,” Chandak further elaborated.
“In our nation, discussions surrounding semiconductors began 50-60 years ago… However, the concept was stalled and ultimately shelved. The very idea of semiconductors was prematurely concluded. We lost several decades. In the interim, numerous countries excelled in semiconductor technology and solidified their global standing,” PM Modi stated, asserting that the country is now in a mission mode to reclaim its lost position.
