Hyderabad, Dec 3 (NationPress) On Wednesday, IndiGo disclosed that a combination of technology failures, airport congestion, and operational necessities have led to numerous unexpected delays and cancellations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport over the last two days. The airline's representatives confirmed that their teams are actively working to stabilize operations and reduce inconvenience for travelers following a wave of disruptions.

IndiGo stated, “We have experienced several unavoidable flight delays and some cancellations in recent days due to various factors including technological issues, airport congestion, and operational requirements.”

As per airport sources, 33 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday, impacting passengers on crucial domestic routes.

Across these two days, there were 16 cancellations of departures and 17 cancellations of arrivals. Specifically, on December 2, nine departures and five arrivals were cancelled, while Wednesday saw seven departures and 12 arrivals halted.

Flights linking Hyderabad with Delhi, Bengaluru, Goa, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Hubbali, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, and Madurai were among those impacted.

Numerous other flights faced delays, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at the airport.

Travelers heading for international connections experienced additional stress as their schedules were disrupted.

In a statement, an IndiGo representative expressed regret over the inconvenience to passengers and assured that alternate flight options or refunds were being provided where applicable.

“Our teams are diligently working to ensure that operations return to normal as quickly as possible. Moreover, we are offering alternate flight options or refunds to affected customers, as applicable,” the spokesperson noted.

IndiGo also recommended that travelers verify their flight status before heading to the airport to minimize further inconvenience.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers due to these disruptions. We encourage customers to check the latest flight status at https://www.goindigo.in/check-flight-status.html before arriving at the airport to help us reduce inconvenience,” added the IndiGo spokesperson.

The disruptions coincided with broader operational challenges faced by airports in India due to technological glitches affecting check-in systems in recent days.

Additionally, two incoming flights—from Riyadh and Pune—were diverted to Mumbai and Bengaluru respectively on Tuesday due to poor visibility at Hyderabad.

Point of View

This incident underscores the vulnerabilities in the aviation sector's operational integrity, particularly in light of technology reliance. IndiGo must prioritize transparency and customer care in such challenging times, ensuring travelers are adequately informed and supported.
