New Delhi, July 15 (NationPress) - The job market is gaining significant momentum and economic opportunities are expanding in non-metro cities across India, as highlighted in a recent report released on Tuesday.

The Cities on the Rise report from the professional networking platform LinkedIn points to Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Nashik, and Raipur as the leading non-metro hubs where professional opportunities are rapidly increasing.

The report further identifies emerging tier-2 and tier-3 growth areas, including Rajkot, Agra, Madurai, Vadodara, and Jodhpur, for professionals seeking to relocate, engage with new industries, or advance their careers locally.

The success of these rising cities is credited to the proactive initiatives by both central and state governments aimed at local development.

“Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are pivotal to India’s economic transformation. The surge in GCC investments, the thriving local MSME sector, and the government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat are collectively transforming smaller cities into viable career destinations,” stated Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn Career Expert and India Senior Managing Editor.

“This signifies that for numerous Indians, substantial career advancement no longer necessitates a move to a metropolitan area. These ten emerging cities provide genuine opportunities across various industries, functions, and roles—right in their own backyards,” Banerjee added.

Additionally, the report underscores the influence of technology, pharmaceuticals, and finance sectors moving into tier-2 and tier-3 cities, thereby attracting talent.

It notes that amidst the explosion of data and AI, tech companies are establishing a presence in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, thereby stimulating local talent activities.

Even healthcare and pharmaceutical firms are generating job opportunities in Visakhapatnam and Vadodara, while several major banks are propelling growth in financial services in Raipur, Agra, and Jodhpur.

Business development positions were recognized as the primary hiring drivers in six out of the ten Cities on the Rise, which include Nashik, Raipur, Rajkot, Agra, Vadodara, and Jodhpur.

For professionals in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Madurai, the majority of job openings are surfacing in the engineering sector. Other critical roles in demand include sales, operations, and education in these tier-2 and tier-3 locations.

Point of View

I observe that the economic landscape in India is evolving, with tier-2 and tier-3 cities emerging as vital contributors to job creation and local development. This shift reflects a broader national trend towards decentralization of career opportunities, ultimately empowering professionals to thrive in their local environments.
