New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) The burgeoning employment landscape in India is significantly influenced by its Tier-2 cities, as revealed in a recent report. This study indicates that the IT sector has experienced a remarkable 53 percent increase in hiring within these smaller cities.

The analysis conducted by the job platform foundit highlighted that while the overall national hiring remained stable month-on-month (0 percent), it saw a year-on-year growth of 20 percent. In contrast, Tier-2 markets have outperformed this average with a 28 percent year-on-year increase.

Key sectors contributing to this growth include IT, BFSI, Manufacturing, and FMCG. Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu led the charge with a 26 percent increase, followed closely by Nagpur and Nasik in Maharashtra, both at 24 percent.

The IT industry has witnessed extraordinary expansion in Tier-2 cities, with a growth rate of 53 percent year-on-year, surpassing the national average of 30 percent. Additionally, the logistics and transportation sector grew by 42 percent, while energy saw a 38 percent increase, showcasing robust market development.

With growing industries and investments, Tier-2 cities are becoming pivotal.

In contrast, major metropolitan areas, including Delhi-NCR (+5 percent year-on-year), Chennai (+18 percent), and Bengaluru (+16 percent), experienced comparatively slower growth.

“For employers, these cities present strategic avenues for sustainable growth, bolstered by enhanced infrastructure, targeted investments, and a geographical diversification strategy. This growth, the strongest we've observed in recent years, underscores the escalating significance of Tier-2 cities in India's employment scene,” Kale added.

The report further indicated that overall hiring remained constant in June, with key consumer-facing sectors and tech roles displaying notable month-on-month momentum.

Retail emerged as the leading sector with a 10 percent month-on-month rise, propelled by festive preparations and expansion in Tier-2 markets.

Additionally, the energy sector (+7 percent month-on-month) and import/export sector (+8 percent month-on-month) demonstrated solid growth, indicating a resurgence in infrastructure and trade activities.
