New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) Approximately 300,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are currently immobilized at the Strait of Hormuz, according to Rajesh Kumar Sinha, the Special Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, who spoke on Tuesday.

In a significant briefing, the senior government representative noted that several vessels carrying LPG are hindered from proceeding due to the circumstances affecting this essential shipping lane.

He detailed that there are six vessels currently trapped in the Strait of Hormuz, each transporting about 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG.

“Currently, six ships are stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, each carrying approximately 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG,” Sinha stated.

This totals around 300,000 metric tonnes of fuel that has yet to reach its intended destinations.

The Strait of Hormuz represents one of the most vital maritime routes for energy supplies, linking the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea.

Meanwhile, the second Indian-flagged LPG tanker, 'Nanda Devi', docked at Vadinar Port in Gujarat during the early hours of Tuesday.

On Monday, the first Indian-flagged 'Shivalik' arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat.

Officials confirmed that the LPG carrier Shivalik reached Mundra Port with a total cargo of approximately 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG, with 20,000 metric tonnes to be unloaded at Mundra and the remaining 26,000 metric tonnes destined for Mangaluru.

Both vessels were delivering critical LPG supplies to India after navigating through a perilous route via the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime operations have been disrupted due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel.

However, while Nanda Devi and Shivalik have safely arrived, another vessel, 'Jag Laadki', transporting nearly 81,000 tonnes of crude oil from the UAE, is still on its way to India.
