New Delhi, March 22 (NationPress) Madhusudan Agrawal, the Honorary Consul of Uganda in Mumbai, India (Western Zone) and a distinguished philanthropist, has been awarded the esteemed 'Consular of the Year' accolade by the Honorary Consular Corps Diplomatique-India (HCCD).

Agrawal, who is also the co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Ajanta Pharma, performs vital roles as the General Secretary of HCCD Mumbai and Director of HCCD India.

This recognition celebrates his significant contributions to enhancing India-Uganda relations, his humanitarian initiatives, and his unwavering commitment to diplomacy and social welfare. He was selected for this honour from over 200 honorary consuls representing various nations in India.

"I am genuinely humbled to accept this distinguished award from HCCD. This recognition extends beyond me - it belongs to my family, my colleagues at Ajanta Pharma, and my team at the Mamta and Madhusudan Agrawal Foundation, who tirelessly strive for societal improvement. I also express my sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Uganda for allowing me to serve them,” stated Agrawal.

Agrawal further highlighted that this honour carries a responsibility to continue serving the community and making a lasting difference.

"This award is a reminder that there is still much work ahead. I am committed to expanding my healthcare initiatives, reinforcing India-Uganda relations, and working towards a healthier and better world. As India embraces 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' - The World is One Family - I will persist in serving with this spirit," he added.

Agrawal has been a pioneer of cancer awareness and treatment in both Uganda and India. One of his notable contributions was the donation of a Mammography Van - ‘Hope Express’ - to the Uganda Cancer Institute, officially presented during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uganda in 2018.

This mobile cancer screening facility has been vital in the early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer, benefiting over 300,000 women to date. More than 1,500 lives have been preserved through early detection and timely medical intervention.

Additionally, he has been instrumental in facilitating the journey of over 100 children from Uganda to India for life-saving heart surgeries, ensuring they receive top-notch medical care at no expense - a mission that will carry on in the future.

Agrawal has also launched an artificial limb programme in Uganda, providing prosthetic limbs to individuals impacted by landmines and accidents. He aims to donate and fit 1,000 artificial limbs, helping individuals regain mobility and achieve independence.

In India, through his Sanjeevani Mamta Hospital, part of the Mamta & Madhusudan Agrawal Foundation in Andheri (E), Mumbai, he has established free cancer screening camps, providing early detection and subsidised treatment for patients with breast and cervical cancer. His vision is clear - financial constraints should never obstruct access to essential healthcare.

Agrawal also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for affordable and accessible healthcare, underscoring the significance of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which has assisted over 6.8 million cancer patients in receiving treatment without cost.

According to The Lancet, this initiative has facilitated early detection in 36% of cancer cases, greatly enhancing survival rates.

"Under PM Modi’s guidance, India has emerged as a global leader in healthcare, ensuring quality treatment for all, regardless of financial status. His vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ inspires me to pursue my public welfare mission," Agrawal expressed.

Agrawal’s contributions to business, diplomacy, and philanthropy have garnered him numerous prestigious awards, including the Golden Jubilee Medal - the highest civilian honour bestowed by Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, the ABLF Business Innovator Award, presented by the Asian Business Leadership Forum in Dubai and conferred by H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, the Seva Bhushan Samman, awarded by the Governor of Uttarakhand, and the Icons of Aurangabad Award, acknowledged by Ratan Tata.

Through his ongoing efforts in healthcare, social service, and diplomacy, Agrawal remains dedicated to making a significant impact on society.
