New Delhi, April 22 (NationPress) Pratik Mathur, the Consul General of India in Shanghai, met with Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), to explore potential growth avenues in the logistics and connectivity sectors. They also addressed the economic landscape of the region.
Mathur, who previously held the position of Minister (Political) at India’s Mission to the United Nations in New York, took on his role as Consul General in Shanghai in January of this year.
Posting on the social media platform X, the Consul General remarked on the global expansion of Indian enterprises.
He stated, "Had a productive meeting today with Karan Adani, MD of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, discussing the economic climate in the region and future growth in logistics and connectivity sectors."
Mathur was part of the Indian team at the UN Security Council from January 2021 to December 2022, with prior postings in Indian embassies in Washington, DC, and Beijing.
Recently, the Board of Directors of Adani Ports approved the acquisition of Abbot Point Port Holdings Pte Ltd (APPH) from Carmichael Rail and Port Singapore Holdings Pte Ltd (CRPSHPL), which is a related entity.
APPH manages the North Queensland Export Terminal (NQXT), a dedicated export terminal with a capacity of 50 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
This acquisition will bolster the global logistics and transport presence of APSEZ and accelerate its goal to handle 1 billion tonnes annually by 2030.
Earlier this month, Karan Adani announced that the launch of the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka would generate thousands of local jobs.
Adani Ports has initiated operations at the CWIT, located in the Port of Colombo. The CWIT project represents a significant investment of $800 million, featuring a quay length of 1,400 metres and a depth of 20 metres, allowing the terminal to accommodate around 3.2 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) each year.
