New Delhi, Oct 31 (NationPress) The acquisition of a UK hospital by Narayana Health is a significant achievement for India and showcases the increasing capabilities of Bharat, stated Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday.
The Bengaluru-headquartered Narayana Health has acquired the UK-based Practice Plus Group Hospitals, which runs 12 hospitals and surgical centers, specializing in high-quality orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and general surgery.
In a post on the social media platform X, Goyal expressed, "This is a proud moment for India as our healthcare delivery system continues to enhance its global footprint. The expansion with Narayana Health acquiring the UK-based Practice Plus Group Hospitals accentuates Bharat's growing prowess and excellence in delivering world-class medical services."
He commended the Group's Chairman, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, for this milestone, noting that it "will further drive our healthcare ecosystem to reach new heights on the global stage."
Goyal emphasized, "PM Narendra Modi ji's vision and progressive policies are revitalizing India’s healthcare landscape," he added.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson of Biocon, also praised the acquisition, calling it "a potential game changer by introducing the affordable care model to the UK," she remarked on X.
Last month, Biocon made headlines by announcing the first US FDA-approved formulations facility in New Jersey. The company had acquired this plant from Eywa Pharma in 2023.
In terms of financials, the total consideration for Narayana Health's acquisition is reported to be GBP 188.78 million for a 100% stake, which includes 60,001 equity shares with a face value of GBP 0.02 each of Practice Plus Group Hospitals. The acquisition price per share is said to be GBP 3146.29, according to reports.
