Launch of Redesigned Commerce Department Website and Mobile App Supporting 22 Languages
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) - On Wednesday, the government unveiled a newly designed website and a bilingual mobile application for the Department of Commerce. This initiative provides a unified platform for exporters, importers, and trade participants to access trade-related information, government services, and real-time data, as stated by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
The revamped platform adheres to the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) 3.0 and the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW), featuring content in all 22 scheduled Indian languages via the government's Bhashini API. This is an effort to broaden accessibility beyond just English and Hindi.
In conjunction with the website, a mobile app has been launched, compatible with both Android and iOS, which offers offline access and GPS-enabled features, enabling users to retrieve trade information without needing a constant internet connection.
The government also announced provisions for regular maintenance focusing on security, scalability, and continuous enhancement of both the website and the app.
Among its features, the website and application include a structured three-level navigation menu, real-time content updates through a content management system, and customizable settings for font size, color themes, and language preferences. It is designed with accessibility for persons with disabilities in mind, complying with the Centre's guidelines, and is optimized for mobile devices.
On the integration side, the platform connects directly with the Trade Intelligence and Analytics (TIA) Portal, providing real-time trade data on Territorial and Commodity Division pages.
Furthermore, parliamentary questions and answers concerning the Department of Commerce will now be automatically updated through a Parliament Portal integration, eliminating the need for manual uploads, according to the ministry.
Additionally, the platform is linked to CPGRAMS, the centralized public grievance redress and monitoring system, facilitating smooth complaint filing and tracking.
Social media accounts on platforms like X, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram have been integrated into the platform for a consolidated digital presence of the department.
This launch is seen as part of India's broader push towards e-governance, aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and the ease of conducting business in foreign trade.
