Revenue from Telecom and Pay-TV Services in India Expected to Hit $50.7 Billion by 2029

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Fueled by the mobile data and fixed broadband sectors, the revenue from telecom and pay-TV services in India is forecasted to rise at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5%, increasing from $44.9 billion in 2024 to $50.7 billion by 2029, as indicated in a report released on Friday.
GlobalData’s ‘India Telecom Operators Country Intelligence Report’ disclosed that revenues from mobile voice services are likely to drop during the forecast period due to a consistent decline in mobile voice service ARPU, as users are progressively migrating to OTT communication platforms.
“Currently, 4G is the dominant mobile technology in India, representing 68.9% of the total mobile subscriptions in 2024. However, this percentage is projected to fall to 32.1% by 2029, primarily as subscribers transition to high-speed 5G services,” elaborated Srikanth Vaidya, a telecom analyst at GlobalData.
Conversely, mobile data service revenues are expected to grow at a robust CAGR of 5.5% throughout the forecast period, driven by increased smartphone adoption, a rise in mobile internet subscriptions, and greater consumption of mobile data services.
According to Vaidya, 5G services represented 15% of total mobile subscriptions in 2024, a figure anticipated to rise to 61.8% by 2029, propelled by ongoing expansions of 5G networks by mobile operators.
For instance, Airtel’s 5G network reached 140,000 villages as of September 2024.
The report further indicated that revenues from fixed broadband services are projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.2% during the 2024-29 timeframe, aligning with the steady rise in fixed broadband subscriptions, especially through FTTH/B access lines.
“The increasing demand for and improved availability of higher-speed fiber broadband connections, supported by government initiatives to enhance fiber network infrastructure nationwide, will drive the uptake of fiber broadband services throughout the forecast period,” stated Vaidya.
For instance, the Phase III of BharatNet, valued at Rs 650 billion ($7.8 billion), is expected to commence shortly with the objective of enhancing fiber broadband connectivity in rural regions across the country.
