New Delhi, Aug 9 (NationPress) The Sanchar Saathi mobile application, launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to combat fraudulent calls and messages, has achieved over 50 lakh downloads just six months after its debut, according to the Ministry of Communication.
Since its introduction in January of this year, the Sanchar Saathi initiative has facilitated the recovery of more than 5.35 lakh lost or stolen mobile devices, disconnected over 1 crore unauthorized mobile connections based on citizen feedback, and flagged more than 29 lakh mobile numbers through the Chakshu feature, as reported by the Ministry.
The Sanchar Saathi Portal has recorded over 16.7 crore visits, demonstrating the increasing public confidence in this digital platform designed for citizens.
Through this app, the DoT is significantly enhancing telecom security and empowering consumers.
Considering India's vast linguistic and regional diversity, the department has broadened the app’s accessibility to support English, Hindi, and 21 regional languages.
The Ministry stated, "The reporting process for fraudulent calls and messages has been simplified, allowing users to file reports directly from their call and SMS logs with just a few taps."
The DoT has also established the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) to assess and categorize mobile numbers based on their connection to financial fraud risk.
This tool allows banks, NBFCs, and UPI service providers to implement precautionary measures to safeguard consumers.
As a result, 34 financial institutions have frozen 10.02 lakh bank accounts/payment wallets and placed debit/credit restrictions on 3.05 lakh accounts based on FRI evaluations, as indicated by the Ministry.
Building on the success of the portal launched on May 16, 2023, the DoT unveiled the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App on January 17, 2025, granting users direct and easy access to telecom security services.
The key features of the Sanchar Saathi application include the Chakshu feature for reporting suspected fraud communications, checking mobile connections in your name, blocking lost or stolen devices, and verifying mobile handset authenticity.
The app is available for both Android and iOS platforms.
