New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) The aerospace startup Sarla Aviation has recently introduced the nation’s first flying taxi prototype named ‘Shunya’ earlier this year and is gearing up to initiate commercial operations soon.
In an interview with IANS, Adrian, co-founder and CEO of Sarla Aviation, emphasized that the introduction of air taxis in India is a significant objective under the 'Viksit Bharat' initiative.
“India requires an improved transport infrastructure. This is where the concept of air taxis becomes relevant. They are projected to become an essential aspect of public transportation in the near future,” remarked Adrian.
He further elaborated that implementing air taxis is crucial for alleviating issues such as traffic congestion.
Air taxis are anticipated to facilitate travel to various locations, including schools, shopping malls, hospitals, and airports. Adrian characterized air taxis as a smarter, more cost-effective, and convenient alternative to conventional vehicles.
To date, Sarla Aviation has secured $12 million in funding from diverse venture capital firms and angel investors. The company aims to attract further investments to broaden its reach.
Indian investors have been instrumental in the achievements of Sarla Aviation, and Adrian expresses great satisfaction regarding this support.
He stated, "A majority of our investors are Indians, and we take pride in being supported by some of the most brilliant minds who have founded exceptional companies in this country."
Sarla Aviation is in the process of developing India’s most advanced electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This development signifies India’s increasing ambition in sustainable urban air mobility and highlights the necessity of collaboration in fostering innovation.
With a focus on eVTOL aircraft development, Sarla Aviation aspires to revolutionize urban mobility through speedier, cleaner, and more efficient transportation options. The company plans to commence test flights and advance additional prototypes, aiming for a market launch by 2028.
