Bengaluru, Sep 23 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing traffic challenges plaguing the city, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reached out to Wipro Founder Chairman Azim Premji, seeking collaboration to mitigate congestion along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) by permitting controlled vehicular access through the Wipro campus.
In his correspondence to Azim Premji on Tuesday, CM Siddaramaiah expressed his admiration for Wipro's ongoing role in enhancing Karnataka's IT landscape and its broader socio-economic progression.
He noted, "Bengaluru is currently grappling with significant traffic issues, particularly at the Iblur Junction on the ORR, where severe congestion during peak hours is impacting mobility, productivity, and the overall quality of urban life."
He further suggested exploring the possibility of allowing limited vehicular passage through the Wipro campus, contingent upon mutually agreed terms and necessary security protocols.
Initial assessments from traffic experts indicate that this initiative could potentially reduce congestion on nearby sections of the ORR by approximately 30% during busy periods.
CM Siddaramaiah emphasized, "Your assistance in this regard could significantly alleviate traffic bottlenecks, enhance the commuting experience, and contribute to a more efficient and livable Bengaluru. I would be grateful if your team could collaborate with our officials to devise a timely and agreeable plan."
Previously, Rajesh Yabaji, Co-Founder and CEO of BlackBuck, expressed dissatisfaction with the road conditions along the Bellandur ORR, initially announcing plans to relocate his company. However, he later retracted his statement, affirming that BlackBuck would remain in Bengaluru.
On social media, Rajesh Yabaji remarked, "The ORR Bellandur has been our workplace and home for nine years. However, the situation has become increasingly challenging, leading us to consider relocation. Our average commute has escalated to 1.5 hours, compounded by potholes and dust, with little hope for change in the near future."
On September 18, he clarified that BlackBuck would not be leaving Bengaluru but would instead expand its presence there.
In his clarification, he mentioned, "BlackBuck began its journey in 2015 from Bengaluru, initially operating from a modest office near the Sony Signal in Koramangala. As we grew, we moved to Bellandur ORR in 2016 for larger spaces and better facilities. The ORR and the city of Bengaluru have provided the necessary resources, infrastructure, talent, and opportunities for our growth within the trucking sector in India."
He added, "We categorically reject claims suggesting we are contemplating leaving the city. We are merely relocating to a more convenient location while continuing to operate largely on the ORR. We will persist in seeking assistance from relevant authorities to enhance infrastructure for smoother business operations."
Despite his earlier relocation statement causing a stir, industry leaders urged the Karnataka government to take proactive measures to address the situation.
Mohandas Pai, a recipient of the Padma Shree award, and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder of Biocon, voiced their concerns on social media. Pai tagged Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, the city's Development Minister, expressing urgency for road improvements.
He stated, "This is a significant governance failure in Bengaluru. Companies are moving away from the ORR. The situation is dire. Please intervene."
In response to the deteriorating road conditions, Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar announced, "A deadline has been set to repair potholes and submit a report to me. Commissioners are instructed to provide updates on their morning inspections across the city."
