New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) Following a configuration error that erroneously showcased Starlink’s pricing for India on its website, the company announced on Monday that the issue has been resolved and stated, “the displayed figures do not represent the actual cost of Starlink services in India.”
Earlier today, the Starlink India site appeared with pricing for local consumers, listing a monthly fee of Rs 8,600 and a hardware kit requirement of Rs 34,000 for new subscribers.
Lauren Dreyer, Vice President and Senior Director of Starlink Business Operations at SpaceX, clarified in a post on X that “the Starlink India website is currently not operational, the pricing for customers has yet to be disclosed, and we are not processing orders from Indian customers.”
“A configuration glitch briefly revealed test data, which does not indicate the actual pricing for Starlink services in India. The issue has since been promptly corrected,” she elaborated.
Dreyer expressed enthusiasm about connecting the Indian populace with Starlink's high-speed internet, affirming that “our teams are diligently working to secure final government approvals to activate the service (and the website).”
Starlink is promoting features like plug-and-play installation, over 99.9% uptime, resistance to extreme weather, and no data caps, aiming to cater to consumers in areas lacking reliable terrestrial broadband.
Recent recruitment efforts by the company suggest an uptick in operational activities in anticipation of the launch. At the end of October, SpaceX advertised four job openings in Bengaluru: Payments Manager, Accounting Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst, and Tax Manager, indicating a strategy for broader international expansion.
Previously, the Maharashtra government formalized a partnership with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) to collaborate on deploying satellite internet services for government institutions, rural communities, and crucial public infrastructure in remote and underserved regions, including aspirational districts like Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Dharashiv, and Washim.
The LoI was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar.
“It was a pleasure to host Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink, in Mumbai, where the Government of Maharashtra solidified an LoI with Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited, marking Maharashtra as the inaugural Indian state to officially partner with Starlink. Elon Musk's Starlink stands as one of the largest entities in the ICT sector, operating the highest number of communication satellites globally. We are proud to welcome this partnership in India,” CM Fadnavis noted in a post on his official X account.
