New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk expressed his enthusiasm for providing India with his budget-friendly internet service, Starlink, during a statement on Wednesday.
His remarks followed an X post from Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who had a meeting with Lauren Dreyer, the Vice President and Senior Director of Starlink Business Operations at SpaceX.
The minister shared that it was a pleasure to meet @LaurenDreyer and the senior leadership team to discuss enhancing satellite-based last-mile access throughout India.
Scindia emphasized that as they strive to fulfill PM Narendra Modi’s vision of a digitally empowered nation, “satellite technology will be crucial in extending connectivity to the most isolated areas and improving internet access for every citizen in rural and challenging regions, thereby ensuring that digital inclusion promotes broader development.”
Previously, the company encountered a configuration error that mistakenly displayed Starlink’s India pricing on its local website. This week, they confirmed that the issue was resolved and clarified that “the displayed numbers do not represent the actual cost of Starlink services in India.”
The Starlink India website went live with service pricing information showing a monthly fee of Rs 8,600 for customers in India, while new subscribers are required to buy a hardware kit priced at Rs 34,000.
Dreyer mentioned in an X post that “The Starlink India website is live, but service pricing for customers in India has yet to be disclosed, and we are currently not accepting orders from customers in India.”
“There was a configuration glitch that briefly revealed dummy test data, but those figures do not indicate the pricing of Starlink service in India. The issue has been promptly resolved,” she clarified.
Dreyer expressed their eagerness to connect the people of India with Starlink’s high-speed internet, stating “our teams are dedicated to securing final government approvals to activate the service (and the website).”
Starlink promotes features such as plug-and-play installation, over 99.9% uptime, resilience to harsh weather, and no data caps as part of their initiative to reach consumers in areas where terrestrial broadband is unreliable.
