Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Union Budget 2026 has made all essential provisions for ensuring the health of India, stated Minister of State Anupriya Patel on Sunday.
In an interview with IANS, Patel highlighted that the Budget, unveiled by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, places significant emphasis on health, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
“India has made strides towards self-reliance, and every sector is now impacted by it,” she remarked.
Celebrating the Biopharma Shakti Mission with an allocation of Rs 10,000 crore, the MoS asserted that this initiative will pave the way for India to emerge as a biopharma manufacturing hub in the near future, marking a substantial advancement towards self-sufficiency.
Considering the rising demand for allied health professionals, Patel announced that in the next five years, 10,000 new Allied Health Professionals would be trained, along with the establishment of new educational institutes.
“To enhance geriatric care, one lakh multi-skilled care professionals will also receive training under this budget's provisions,” the Minister noted.
Furthermore, to boost medical value tourism, five regional medical hubs will be set up across the nation, providing education, clinical care, and research facilities for the public and patients through partnerships with state governments and the private sector.
“Previously, only one institute, NIMHANS in South India, addressed mental health issues. To aid the North Indian population, we have decided to establish another NIMHANS in Sati, Tezpur, and Ranchi through this budget,” Patel explained.
She also mentioned that existing mental health insurance will be improved and praised the removal of customs duties on 17 cancer drugs and 7 rare disease medications.
“I am pleased that the Finance Minister has emphasized the reduction of basic customs duties on cancer and rare disease medications in this Budget, along with provisions to enhance emergency and trauma care in district hospitals. In summary, every necessary provision to safeguard the health of India has been incorporated in this budget. We extend our gratitude to the Finance Minister for prioritizing the health of our nation,” Patel concluded in her remarks to IANS.
