Workshop at IIT Delhi to Evaluate the Current State of 6G in India with US Collaboration

New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) India has initiated its journey into 6G research, and a partnership with the US could greatly enhance the application scenarios surrounding this cutting-edge technology, as highlighted by experts.
In line with this objective, IIT Delhi is hosting a two-day international workshop, named “Indo-US Workshop on 6G Technologies,” scheduled for December 9-10 in the national capital.
The primary aim is to evaluate the present state of 6G development in India and deliberate on 6G objectives concerning the use cases to be explored, technologies to be designed, intellectual property rights and prototype/testbed establishment, manufacturing of devices/prototypes, and the cultivation of skilled professionals.
The goal is to propose strategies for accomplishing these objectives and how the India-US alliance could facilitate this endeavor.
“The anticipated 6G communication systems are likely to support innovative use cases such as universal connectivity (via non-terrestrial networks), industrial automation, self-driving vehicles, and tactile internet/mobile robotics,” stated Professor Saif Khan Mohammed from the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi.
Emerging use cases introduce their own challenges regarding reliability, efficiency, security, and sustainability.
“One of the aims of this workshop is to comprehend the technological enablers for these new use cases and how India can spearhead the innovation of emerging technologies,” he mentioned in a statement.
The workshop will include panel discussions and presentations from telecom stakeholders from both India and the US, encompassing distinguished academicians, government representatives, standardization authorities, telecom operators, and equipment manufacturers.
As per Professor Shankar Prakriya, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi, the workshop presents a unique opportunity for students, researchers, and engineers to gain insight into 6G technology.
“This is particularly timely since 6G research is already in progress, and standardization is anticipated to commence next year,” Prakriya added.
Following the rapid deployment of 5G across the country, India is swiftly progressing toward 6G technology and now ranks among the leaders in filing patents related to this area.
A government-led panel has indicated that India could capture a 10 percent share of all 6G patents along with contributing one-sixth to global standards within the next three years.
