New Delhi, April 24 (NationPress) Eternal (Zomato) on Thursday issued a statement affirming that Rakesh Ranjan, the CEO of its food delivery operations, has not stepped down from his role.
This clarification follows a media report suggesting that Ranjan was resigning amid a leadership overhaul, with Zomato’s co-founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal anticipated to assume interim responsibilities.
Zomato’s parent entity, Eternal Group, confirmed that Ranjan has yet to submit any resignation and remains an integral part of the leadership team.
“We wish to clarify that currently, there has been no resignation submitted by Mr. Rakesh Ranjan and he continues to be a part of the leadership team,” the company stated in its filing with the stock exchange.
The online food service added that leadership transitions are a standard part of their strategy to enhance the organization’s effectiveness.
“At Eternal Group, internal leadership reshuffles are considered routine as part of the Company’s ongoing initiatives to improve organizational efficiency,” it elaborated in its filings.
Eternal Group also emphasized that no significant internal information had been officially disclosed, and any critical updates will be communicated to the stock exchanges in compliance with regulations.
This clarification, the company mentioned, was voluntarily provided to prevent any misunderstandings.
The now-debunked report had asserted that Ranjan, who became CEO of Zomato’s food delivery segment in May 2023, was leaving the company due to sluggish growth and increasing competition from rivals such as Swiggy.
It further claimed that Goyal would temporarily oversee the food delivery division until a successor was appointed.
Zomato’s food delivery sector is the company’s largest source of both revenue and profits. In the December 2024 quarter, the company recorded a gross order value (GOV) of ₹9,913 crore — a 2 percent increase from the prior quarter and a 17 percent rise compared to the same timeframe last year.
