Los Angeles, Feb 6 (NationPress) - The esteemed Hollywood actor Robert De Niro has been cast in 'The Whisper Man'. This film is based on the crime thriller novel by Alex North.
Directing this adaptation is James Ashcroft, with the screenplay being adapted by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, as reported by Female First UK.
'The Whisper Man' unfolds the tale of a widowed author who, after his eight-year-old son goes missing, turns to his estranged father – a retired police detective – for help. Together, they uncover connections to a decades-old case involving a convicted serial killer dubbed 'The Whisper Man'.
According to Female First UK, producers Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco are on board for AGBO, marking their sixth collaboration with Netflix. Filming is slated to commence this spring.
Russo-Otstot, the chief creative officer at AGBO, expressed, "AGBO is thrilled to embark on our sixth project with our outstanding partners at Netflix. 'The Whisper Man' is a captivating thriller, yet at its heart, it's a touching and intricate story of fathers and sons. We are fortunate to have one of the greatest actors of his generation, Robert De Niro, leading this narrative, with the talented James Ashcroft at the helm."
Robert De Niro has a long history of collaboration with acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, having worked together on ten films. Scorsese noted that their relationship is grounded in "trust and love" stemming from their shared background.
Scorsese shared with HeyUGuys.com, "In the case of Robert De Niro, we were teenagers together, and he’s the only one who truly understands my origins, the people I grew up with, and so forth. Many of them are still alive, and he knows them."
“I am familiar with his friends as well, and we had a genuine testing period in the 70s where we experimented with everything, finding that we could rely on each other. It’s fundamentally about trust and love. That’s what it’s all about,” he added.
Scorsese has collaborated with De Niro on iconic films like 'Taxi Driver' and 'Goodfellas', emphasizing that the star has never "taken over" any of his films.
Scorsese remarked, "That is significant because often, if an actor possesses considerable power, they may dominate the film. I never felt that with him."
The director also disclosed that De Niro recommended Leonardo DiCaprio as a potential collaborator, who has also become one of his frequent partners.
He reminisced, "Years later, he mentioned that he had worked with this young talent, Leo DiCaprio, in 'This Boy's Life', suggesting, 'You should consider working with him.'"
“It was a casual suggestion. However, such a recommendation in the early 90s was anything but casual; he seldom gave recommendations,” he concluded.
