Is Amanda Seyfried's Focus on Films for Women Paying Off?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Feb 20 (NationPress) Hollywood star Amanda Seyfried is celebrating the growing support of women for films that feature strong female protagonists.
The actress experienced a hectic conclusion to 2025 with the release of the musical drama ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’ and the erotic thriller ‘The Housemaid’ within days of each other, as reported by Variety.
Despite being “vastly different,” both projects share a common thread: they focus on powerful women.
According to Variety, during a press event at the Berlin Film Festival for ‘The Testament of Ann Lee’, Seyfried was asked what draws her to specific roles and how she managed to participate in both films simultaneously.
Although she wasn’t directly probed about political issues like many stars at this Berlinale edition, she was asked about the significance of quality in “these times when fascism is rising globally.”
“I reflect on what’s worth leaving my kids for and what will allow me to grow as an artist,” Seyfried remarked. “This particular project (‘Ann Lee’) exuded quality, characterized by a clear vision—not just a message but an exploration of a life through cinematic storytelling with a genuine edge.”
She added that while Paul Feig’s ‘The Housemaid’, which features Sydney Sweeney and has become a commercial success, is “vastly different” in both theme and production experience, it was “also incredibly enjoyable and fulfilled my artistic needs.”
“Not in the same way necessarily, but it was very rewarding for me personally,” she explained. “Ultimately, I cherish the fact that both films highlight strength of character, featuring women driven by their needs and striving for equality and safety in the world.”
