Amaravati, Dec 2 (NationPress) The renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has experienced a measure of relief concerning the legal actions initiated against him for purportedly derogatory posts on social media about Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The Andhra Pradesh High Court issued an order on Monday, preventing law enforcement from executing any severe measures against him until December 9.
The court's interim ruling came following a quash petition submitted by the director, with the case now scheduled for further hearing on December 9.
In a statement to the press in Hyderabad, Ram Gopal Varma expressed that he had no fear of arrest. He explained that he sought court intervention due to the filing of five separate cases against him across different districts regarding the same matter.
Known commonly as RGV, the filmmaker criticized the media for spreading unfounded claims that he was evading authorities or that multiple police teams were searching for him. He asserted that law enforcement had not visited his office, where he was present.
He clarified that there was no arrest warrant issued against him, nor did the police indicate any plans for his arrest.
"I never had any apprehension as I understand the law and the facts of the matter are with me," he stated.
RGV accused the media of publishing stories without consulting the relevant police officials, suggesting that their intent was more about entertainment than factual reporting.
He suspected a possible conspiracy behind the five different cases stemming from a tweet he made a year ago.
The director admitted he was unaware of the specific content of his tweets from a year prior, stating, "I am very active on Twitter. I have tweeted thousands of times and I cannot recall what I tweeted a year ago."
While he claimed his actions are protected by freedom of expression, he emphasized his commitment to adhere to the court's decisions.
The police in Prakasam district initiated a case against RGV on November 11 following a complaint from a local leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Ramalingam.
The complaint alleged that RGV made offensive remarks about TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh, other family members, and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan during promotional events for his film 'Vyuham' late last year.
RGV had posted inappropriate comments on social media platforms.
A case under Section 336 (4) and 353 (2) of the BNS Act, as well as Section 67 of the IT Act, was registered against RGV at the Maddipadu police station.
On November 13, police issued a notice to the filmmaker, instructing him to appear before the investigation officer at Maddipadu police station. However, he did not attend and requested additional time to comply with the investigation.
