Mumbai, Aug 12 (NationPress) Filmmaker Anil Sharma's period action drama, 'Gadar 2', featuring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, celebrated its two-year anniversary since release on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, the director highlighted what he considers the most remarkable aspect of the sequel.
He stated: "One of the standout features was witnessing Utkarsh Sharma, who was the child actor in Gadar 1, return as an adult in Gadar 2. I believe this is perhaps the first instance globally where a child actor has reprised their role after growing up."
When discussing the film's challenges, Anil remarked: "The primary difficulty was figuring out how to advance the narrative from Gadar 1. We invested significant time in this thought process. However, once the story fell into place, it was undeniably worth the effort."
He was queried about whether the success of Gadar heightened his expectations for the sequel.
In response, Anil shared that 'Gadar' had solidified its place in the audience's hearts, and for the past two decades, fans have been inquiring why 'Gadar 2' hadn’t been made.
"I recognized the immense affection for the characters. Therefore, I had complete confidence in the film's success. In fact, I had already forecasted its triumph—emailing Zee even before the launch that it would cross 500 crores. Thankfully, God heard my prayer," he added.
Reflecting on the overwhelming success of 'Gadar 2', Anil noted that the bond between Tara, Jeeta, and Sakina is deeply ingrained in viewers’ memories, which is why the film remains significant.
"The affection people possess for these characters makes it a legacy in itself," the director concluded.
As for future projects, Anil disclosed that they are actively developing Gadar 3.
"The story will persist. The achievements of both Gadar 1 and Gadar 2 illustrate that the narrative and characters have a cherished place in audiences' hearts, and this will continue in the third installment," he finished.
