Anu credited this film for transforming her life almost overnight. She took to Instagram to post a collage of memories with her co-star Rahul Roy, explaining that she was actually returning to Paris when the opportunity for Aashiqui arose.

In her caption, she expressed, “My entry into films was not as it might appear. Looking back, I realize that acting was never a part of my plan. I was in the process of concluding my work in India before heading back to modeling, and that’s when Aashiqui came into my life.”

Anu initially agreed to a brief commitment, thinking, “Just three months, and then I’ll be back.” However, one film changed everything for her instantly. The media began to label her as a 'reluctant actor', and attention started pouring in.

The storyline revolves around an aspiring singer who fortuitously meets a lovely woman at a police station. Their romantic journey begins, but they soon face numerous challenges.

A sequel, Aashiqui 2, directed by Mohit Suri, features a new narrative and stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor.

After debuting in 1990, Anu was featured in several Hindi films like Ghazab Tamasha, King Uncle, Khal-Naaikaa, The Cloud Door, Janam Kundli, and Ram Shastra.

Her last cinematic appearance was in Return of Jewel Thief, which premiered in 1996. This film, directed by Ashok Tyagi, served as a sequel to the classic Jewel Thief from 1967, which featured Ashok Kumar and Dev Anand, who reprised their roles. The cast also included noted actors such as Dharmendra, Jackie Shroff, Shilpa Shirodkar, and Madhoo.

In 1999, Anu suffered a severe car accident that left her in a coma for nearly 29 days, resulting in the loss of all memories from her previous life.
