Will David Attenborough Uncover the Secrets and Threats of Our Oceans in His Documentary?

Mumbai, June 6 (NationPress) Renowned biologist, natural historian, and author David Attenborough is embarking on an exploration of the ocean's depths. His forthcoming documentary, 'Ocean by David Attenborough', invites viewers to immerse themselves in the marine realm.

The documentary will premiere in celebration of World Oceans Day.

This impactful film addresses the significance of the world's oceans and narrates the narrative of how we can—and must—revive the splendor of Earth's expansive, interconnected waters.

Drawing from comprehensive marine research, the documentary has been developed with insights from an array of scientific advisors, including Enric Sala, Founder of National Geographic's Pristine Seas.

It showcases footage of bottom trawling, a fishing method that involves dragging heavy nets across the ocean floor, revealing its catastrophic effects on marine ecosystems. By bringing this footage to light, viewers can grasp the severe consequences and imminent threats our oceans face.

Reflecting on the film, Attenborough remarked, “My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Over the last hundred years, scientists and explorers have unveiled astonishing new species, epic migrations, and intricate ecosystems that surpass anything I could have envisioned as a young man. In this film, we share those extraordinary findings, explain why our oceans are in dire condition, and, perhaps most crucially, illustrate how they can rejuvenate.”

The documentary delves into human activities leading to the oceans' degradation and the repercussions of harmful fishing practices like dredging and bottom trawling on entire marine ecosystems, coastal communities, and the global climate.

Directed by Toby Nowlan, Keith Scholey, and Colin Butfield, and produced by Nowlan for Silverback Films, this film is a co-production between Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios.

'Ocean by David Attenborough' is scheduled for release on June 8 on National Geographic and JioHotstar.
