Why Barbie Ferreira Chose to Leave ‘Euphoria’
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, April 14 (NationPress) Actress Barbie Ferreira, known for her role in the popular series ‘Euphoria’, has shed light on her choice to leave the show following its second season.
In a recent episode of Amanda Hirsch's podcast ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’, the 29-year-old actress explained her departure from the character Kat, as reported by ‘People’ magazine.
When addressing the speculations regarding a "dramatic" exit from the Sam Levinson series, Ferreira clarified that her decision was rooted in prioritizing her character's integrity, stating that "it wasn't dramatic".
She elaborated, “In fact, it was more about a lengthy contemplation of, ‘I don’t know if this is the right path for me’. After having discussions with the team about how to develop Kat into a more complete character, we ultimately found ourselves at a standstill.”
According to ‘Female First UK’, Ferreira mentioned that she and the production team struggled to agree on the direction for Kat's storyline.
She shared, “I don't need to be part of the most popular TV show if I'm not actively engaging in my craft. I would prefer to work on an indie film, where I can challenge myself creatively, rather than just being a background character. Some may find that acceptable, and that's fine for them. But for me, I crave more.”
Ferreira expressed a desire to pursue indie cinema, stating, “I want to create compelling stories, even if they are made on a limited budget, rather than settle for being an afterthought.”
Describing her decision as a "long, arduous process", she reflected, “Ultimately, I realized that I believe in my abilities as an actress and wish for my career to take a different shape. It’s perfectly okay if that's not through a hit TV show. I've experienced that already.”
Additionally, on Collider Ladies Night, she remarked that “the character didn't feel like Kat anymore” during the second season of the show.
Ferreira confirmed her exit from ‘Euphoria’ in August 2022, announcing on Instagram Stories that she was bidding farewell after “four years of embodying such a unique and captivating character.” She portrayed Kat in the first two seasons that aired in 2019 and 2022.
