Los Angeles, April 29 (NationPress) Actress-singer Lily Allen has acknowledged that her remarks about singer-songwriter Katy Perry following her Blue Origin space flight were unkind. The 39-year-old artist had been part of the criticism directed at the 'Firework' star and her all-female crew, which included broadcaster Gayle King and Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sanchez, for their brief journey into orbit earlier this month.
Lily has since reconsidered her stance and conveyed her remorse for her instances of internalised misogyny, as reported by Female First UK.
On her 'Miss Me?' podcast, she stated, "I would like to sincerely apologise for my harsh comments about Katy Perry last week. There was absolutely no need to include her in my criticism, and it stemmed from my own internalised misogyny."
Previously, Lily had specifically called out Katy in her harsh critique of the space mission.
The 'Smile' singer remarked, "Do we really want to discuss Katy Perry and her friends taking a 12-minute trip to space? I mean, what the f hell is that all about? But seriously, what? Why?"
She added, "We are on the verge of recession; people are truly struggling to put food on their tables."
However, she has now adopted a different perspective and expressed regret for specifically targeting Katy.
She shared, "I've been reflecting on this a lot, and it was entirely unnecessary for me to attack her. While I disagree with their actions, she wasn't the only one involved. Yet, she happens to be the most recognizable face and the one who divides opinions the most."
Lily continued, "I just want to say I'm sorry. I would have felt hurt if someone in my field had used my name in that way. I realized that, and I apologize, Katy Perry. I know you probably don't listen to my show, but yes, I'm sorry."
Moreover, Lily isn't the only celebrity to voice her discontent regarding the Blue Origin space flight; model and actress Emily Ratajkowski labeled it as "beyond parody."
In a TikTok video, she expressed, "That space mission this morning? That's end times s*. This is beyond parody."
She added, "Claiming to care about Mother Earth while taking a spaceship funded by a company that is actively harming the planet? Look at the state of the world and consider how many resources went into sending these women into space. For what? What was the marketing angle there?"
She concluded, "And then to try to frame it like… I’m disgusted. Honestly, I’m disgusted."
