Mumbai, April 7 (NationPress) The ticketing service BookMyShow has issued a statement in response to the controversy surrounding comedian Kunal Kamra, who was recently removed from their platform. This development follows an open letter from the comedian to the service. On Sunday, Kunal expressed via his X account that the delisting has hindered his ability to reach audiences he has performed for nearly a decade.
In their response, BMS clarified that the decision to list or delist a show resides entirely with the event organizers, and they have no influence over it.
They stated, "BookMyShow serves as a platform for ticket sales and conducts its business with impartiality and adherence to the laws of India. Our role has been mischaracterized publicly. We provide a medium for ticket sales for live events, and it is the organizer's or venue's choice to determine their show listings or delistings."
The statement continued, "The content of performances is determined solely by the artist or organizer and does not reflect our opinions. We collaborate with all venues and promoters based on mutually agreed terms to offer our ticketing service, just like any other business. We do not prevent any artist from selling tickets on their own website if they choose to do so."
Previously, Kunal's content was taken down from the platform following a parody that ridiculed Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, which resulted in backlash from Shiv Sena leader Rahool Kanal.
The platform reiterated that decisions regarding show content and listings rest with the organizers and venues.
