Chennai, Nov 18 (NationPress) The highly anticipated dark and disturbing Tamil thriller web series 'Regai', directed by Dhinakaran M, is set to debut on November 28, as announced by its producers on Tuesday.

This seven-episode series will be available on the OTT platform Zee5 and stars Bala Hasan, Pavithra Janani, and Vinothini Vaidyanathan in leading roles.

The series is inspired by the creative universe of renowned crime novelist Rajesh Kumar, but 'Regai' (meaning fingerprint) is a unique narrative crafted by Dhinakaran M, who infuses it with fresh intensity and psychological complexity.

At the center of 'Regai' is a haunting question: How does one solve a crime when the victims are already deemed deceased? What starts as a routine pursuit by Sub-Inspector Vetri (played by Bala Hasan) and constable Santhiya (portrayed by Pavithra Janani) evolves into a disturbing investigation.

An ice vendor meets an unfortunate fate while trying to escape, leading Vetri to uncover a severed hand concealed within melting ice. As he follows the evidence, he becomes ensnared in a web of medical experiments and a dark network where every revelation unveils a grimmer truth, every survivor poses a greater threat, and the distinction between predator and prey blurs unexpectedly.

Produced by S. Singaravelan of SS Group Production, the series features other notable actors including Pobalam Pragathesh, Sriram M, Anjali Rao, and Indrajith E in significant roles.

Novelist Rajesh Kumar remarked, “Every crime narrative originates in the human psyche before it manifests on the page. What fascinated me about 'Regai' is its exploration of a simple idea that delves into the darker aspects of our society. When a new creator interprets elements from my world and discovers fresh fears within, it reinforces the vitality of the genre.”

Director Dhinakaran stated, “The series explores the silent violence that occurs out of view, the type that never gets documented but wreaks havoc on lives. I aimed for the audience to experience that discomfort, that unsettling feeling of uncertainty about whom to trust. This world may have germinated from an idea by Rajesh Kumar, but the shadows within it resonate deeply with me.”

Bala Hasan, the lead, expressed, “Vetri is a man relentlessly pursuing answers, yet he is haunted by the truths he uncovers. Portraying him required me to internalize that fear, keeping it hidden from the world. 'Regai' challenged me to explore vulnerability often overlooked in thrillers, highlighting the human toll of bearing others' tragedies.”
