Los Angeles, April 7 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Denise Richards is reflecting on some challenging memories as she examines her complex history with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen.

The actress reminisced about a Christmas when the actor, 59, found himself behind bars, according to People magazine.

During a recent episode of the Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson podcast, the 54-year-old actress, who shares daughters Sami Sheen, 21, and Lola Sheen, 19, with Sheen, stated, “He was arrested on Christmas, and he called me from jail to wish the girls a ‘Merry Christmas.’ They were busy playing with their toys, saying, ‘We’ll talk to Dad later.’ I responded, ‘I think Dad’s going to be a little busy later.’”

According to People, she revealed that she kept her children unaware of the actual situation.

“I didn’t tell them, ‘Your dad just got f** arrested and is in jail, so come say ‘Merry Christmas’ right now,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum remarked.

Charlie Sheen was taken into custody on Christmas Day in 2009 after accusations of assault by his then-wife Brooke Mueller. He later admitted guilt to the charges and spent 30 days incarcerated.

The actress disclosed that throughout her daughters’ upbringing, she made efforts to maintain Sheen’s struggles as a private matter.

“If I was at a school event and he was supposed to be there, and I received a call saying, ‘Something happened sideways, hospital, whatever,’ I wouldn’t tell the kids the truth,” she explained. “I lied to them, saying, ‘Dad had to work.’ Some situations were so extraordinarily bad that I felt, ‘I can’t disclose that.’”

The repercussions of these choices continue to affect the mother of three. “I essentially sheltered the kids to the extent that now, as they’re maturing, they are uncovering truths and initially feeling upset with me, questioning, ‘Why didn’t you tell me this?’” she shared.

The actress emphasized that her primary aim was to “safeguard their relationship” with Sheen. “There was a time when I wasn’t sure if he would survive, and I didn’t want the girls to know their dad through what they might read,” she expressed. “I wanted it to be their experience and their bond. Additionally, I didn’t want to impose my feelings onto them, as that wouldn’t be fair to their relationship with him.”
