Could Dhanush Be the Best Choice for Playing Kalam?

Chennai, May 28 (NationPress) Filmmaker Om Raut has expressed his gratitude towards Dhanush, stating that the actor is the ideal choice for the role of Kalam in the upcoming film, 'Kalam: The Missile Man of India'.

Currently attending Cannes 2025, Raut unveiled his latest directorial project, a significant biopic on Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, one of India’s most cherished Presidents. The film's title was revealed at this esteemed festival, where Raut shared details about the eagerly awaited project and the casting of Dhanush.

Raut remarked, “The principles of Dr. Kalam resonate with every young individual. I read his book 'Wings of Fire' during my college years, and it profoundly influenced my life direction. Everything I am pursuing now is a reflection of the insights I gained from that book.”

He elaborated, “Dr. Kalam’s journey has always motivated me. His life was grounded in three fundamental values: education, which he cherished as a great teacher; innovation, especially indigenous innovation, which he advocated for; and resilience, the commitment to one’s purpose. I’ve always wanted to create a film that embodies these principles. Thanks to producer Abhishek Agarwal, who approached me with the same vision, we began collaborating. After detailed discussions, T-Series and Bhushan Kumar joined us, marking our third partnership.”

Discussing the choice of Dhanush, Raut stated, “To portray Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, it’s vital to encapsulate not only his accomplishments but also his spiritual path and teachings, which is the most challenging aspect of this biopic. I firmly believe there couldn’t be a more suitable actor than Dhanush to convey this profound spiritual and intellectual essence on film. Starring Dhanush and produced by Abhishek Agarwal, renowned for 'The Kashmir Files' and 'Parmanu', the screenplay is crafted by Saiwyn Quadras, celebrated for impactful biopics such as 'Neerja' and 'Maidaan'.

The film is set to explore Dr. Kalam’s journey from his modest beginnings in Rameswaram to his esteemed role as an aerospace scientist, visionary, educator, and ultimately, the beloved President.
