Los Angeles, April 1 (NationPress) Disgraced rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs appears to have had a stroke of luck as a judge in New York has dismissed one of the numerous sexual assault lawsuits filed against him.
The dismissal occurred after a victim, using the pseudonym ‘Jane Doe’, opted not to disclose her identity while pursuing the case, as reported by ‘Variety’.
In the lawsuit, which was initially submitted by attorney Tony Buzbee in October 2024, Jane alleged that Combs attempted to sexually assault her during a party in New York City in 1995 and physically assaulted her when she rejected his advances.
According to ‘Variety’, in January, Buzbee filed a motion for Jane to continue anonymously, which the court declined, explaining that the “serious nature of the allegations” paired with “a lack of specific and concrete harm… undermined her request to remain anonymous”.
After the court mandated Jane to submit a complaint under her real name by March 20, the judge dismissed the case on Monday when she decided not to move forward. Buzbee stated that she felt uncomfortable revealing her identity and ultimately chose not to refile.
“In this specific case, Jane Doe decided against proceeding,” he stated. “There is significant fear among these plaintiffs. I cannot fault her. These cases are challenging and often re-traumatizing for those who decide to pursue them. Each case deserves its own consideration. This woman opted not to move forward and expose herself to the media scrutiny and perceived risks she felt. We must respect that.”
The rapper’s legal team informed ‘Variety’ that this dismissal may signal outcomes for other ongoing cases.
“Today, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against Mr. Combs filed by Texas attorney Anthony Buzbee and his local counsel Antigone Curis on behalf of an anonymized plaintiff,” the statement noted. “This marks the second case initiated by these attorneys against Mr. Combs that has been entirely dismissed. More will follow. For months, we have witnessed a series of cases filed by individuals cloaked in anonymity, driven by attorneys more interested in media sensationalism than legal substantiation. Similar to today’s dismissed claims, the others will not withstand legal scrutiny.”
