Mumbai, March 20 (NationPress) Sonam Nair, the director behind the show “Dupahiya”, expressed her delight at the comparisons being made to the hit series “Panchayat”, referring to it as a “compliment”.

The director commented: “We anticipated some comparisons due to the rural setting of both shows, but we recognized that the similarities stopped there. We are truly honored to be likened to such a cherished and successful series, and I hope that the fans of Panchayat become fans of Dupahiya as well!”

Discussing the traditional art form of 'Launda naach', Nair stated: “We aimed to approach ‘Photua’ with the same grandeur as a major film would handle an item song. We were fortunate to have Ganesh Acharya Sir choreograph it.”

“The boys have given their all in the dance. To me, it’s just as impressive as any item song, while simultaneously redefining what an item song can be.”

As a director from South India, she was asked about the challenges of directing a series set in the heartland of Hindi culture: “I have roots in Kerala, Punjab, and even Burma, and I was raised in a small town in Bengal. Therefore, I feel a connection to every part of our nation,” she shared.

“For this series, I also took dialect lessons alongside the actors and conducted extensive research and preparation to ensure the show feels authentic. Now that viewers from Bihar are saying it resonates with them, it brings me great joy,” she added.

“Dupahiya” features Gajraj Rao alongside Renuka Shahane. Set in the imaginary village of Dhadakpur, the series includes talents such as Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma in key roles.

Produced and executive controlled by Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under their production company, Bombay Film Cartel, the series is directed by Sonam Nair and created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg.
