The film, helmed by Dr Pragabhal, acclaimed for directing India’s inaugural full-length mud racing film, was initially set to premiere on January 14. Nevertheless, the release date was postponed at the last moment.

Upon the announcement of the delay, the filmmakers expressed, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have opted to delay the release of our film 'Jockey'. We genuinely understand and appreciate the anticipation to experience this cinematic thrill on the big screen."

They further elaborated, "This brief postponement is solely to ensure something even more remarkable, and we assure you it will be worth the wait. The new release date will be disclosed soon. Thank you for your unwavering support and patience. With the highest respect and gratitude, Team Jockey."

It is noteworthy that the film's director previously shared insights regarding the project.

"Following my successful direction of 'Muddy', India’s first full-length film on mud racing, I am now bringing a different and exhilarating theme to Indian cinema – a storyline set against the backdrop of the traditional Madurai Goat Fight," he mentioned.

"This film showcases goat fighting – a time-honored South Indian cultural tradition – as an engaging, heartfelt, and entertaining cinematic journey. My aim is to present the unique connection between goats and their handlers and to authentically depict the rich culture of Madurai. After three years of relentless effort, I am excited to introduce 'Jockey' to all of you," he stated.

Dr Pragabhal revealed that during his travels in Madurai, he experienced goat fights for the first time, which captivated him—not just for their intensity but also for the profound bond between the goats and their handlers.

"This relationship, which inspired the goats to fight with such fervor, made me realize that goat fighting transcends sport; it is a cultural expression deeply rooted in Tamil heritage," he explained.

He mentioned that he began documenting and researching this tradition, even staying in Madurai since 2022 to write the screenplay.

"To ensure authenticity, I understood that the actors needed to forge a real connection with the goats. Thus, we acquired goats, trained with them, fed them, and lived alongside them to cultivate a genuine bond," shared Pragabhal, noting the challenges faced during casting.

"Actors had to invest time, undergo physical training, and confront real risks, such as injuries during practice. Two actors who demonstrated exceptional commitment were Yuvan Krishna and Ridhan Krishnas, who fully embraced the challenge. They resided in Madurai, trained with the goats and handlers, and prepared themselves both physically and mentally. Ammu Abhirami also stars as the female lead, alongside Madhu Sudhan Rao in a significant role," he disclosed.

On the technical side, the film features cinematography by Udhayakumar and editing by Srikanth, renowned for managing complex films.

Musical composition is by Sakthi Balaji, while art direction is by C. Udhayakumar. Stunt choreography is handled by Prabhu Jacky, and costume design is by Joshua Maxwel.
