Chennai, January 13 (NationPress) The release of 'Jockey', the highly anticipated film by director Pragabhal, has been postponed, as announced by the producers on Tuesday. The film, which is based on the renowned traditional goat fighting of Madurai, was initially slated for a January 14 debut.
The makers, PK7 Studios, stated, "Due to unavoidable circumstances, we have made the decision to delay the launch of our film 'Jockey'. We genuinely appreciate the anticipation surrounding this cinematic experience and are committed to delivering something exceptional."
They further expressed, "This short postponement is to ensure the final product exceeds expectations, and we will announce the new release date soon. Thank you for your unwavering support and understanding. With the utmost respect, Team Jockey."
Previously, in an earlier discussion, the director elaborated on the film's unique premise. "Following my success with 'Muddy', India's pioneering full-length film on mud racing, I am excited to present another extraordinary narrative rooted in the cultural heritage of South India – a story revolving around the traditional goat fights of Madurai."
He emphasized that the film would showcase goat fighting as not merely a sport but a profound cultural expression intertwined with Tamil traditions. Pragabhal shared his aspiration to portray the deep connection between the goats and their trainers, highlighting the rich cultural landscape of Madurai. After three years of diligent effort, he is proud to unveil 'Jockey' to the audience.
During his explorations in Madurai, the director was captivated by the goat fights, which revealed not only their intensity but also the significant bond between the goats and their handlers.
He noted, "The passionate bond inspired the goats to fight fervently, illustrating that these contests are deeply embedded in Tamil culture."
Pragabhal dedicated himself to documenting and researching this tradition, even extending his stay in Madurai from 2022 to craft a compelling narrative.
To ensure authenticity, the actors needed to forge genuine relationships with the goats. "We acquired goats, underwent training sessions, and lived with them to cultivate a true connection," he explained, acknowledging the casting challenges.
"Actors were required to invest significant time for physical training and face real risks, including injuries during rehearsals. Two actors, Yuvan Krishna and Ridhan Krishnas, demonstrated remarkable dedication, immersing themselves in Madurai and training with both the goats and their handlers, preparing comprehensively for their roles. Ammu Abhirami features as the female lead alongside Madhu Sudhan Rao in a pivotal role," he shared.
On the technical side, the film boasts cinematography by Udhayakumar and editing by Srikanth, known for his expertise in managing intricate projects. The musical score is composed by Sakthi Balaji, while C. Udhayakumar oversees art direction. Stunts are choreographed by Prabhu Jacky, and costumes are designed by Joshua Maxwel.
