Mumbai, Oct 12 (NationPress) The latest Filmfare Awards in Ahmedabad began on a disconcerting note when a drone performance went haywire. The opening act of the 70th Filmfare Awards featured a drone display honoring some of Hindi cinema's most celebrated stars, showcasing the coveted statuette.

However, as the drone display concluded, a malfunction occurred, causing one of the drones to plummet into the audience, resulting in minor injuries to a female spectator. Although the injury was not serious, it instigated a wave of panic among the audience for about 10-15 minutes. Fortunately, the event quickly resumed its course without any further disruptions.

This incident parallels a recent drone show catastrophe in China. On October 2, 2025, a drone and fireworks presentation in Liuyang, Hunan Province, malfunctioned during National Day festivities. Titled “October: The Sound of Blooming Flowers,” the event intended to create a stunning 3D visual over the landscape.

However, shortly after takeoff, hundreds of synchronized drones spiraled out of control, with some igniting and causing fires below. Attendees were seen fleeing and protecting themselves from falling wreckage. Thankfully, officials reported no injuries, and the fires were promptly controlled. This incident echoes a similar occurrence the prior year in Quanzhou, where over 2,000 drones malfunctioned during a cultural display, prompting mass panic, though no injuries were reported. This has ignited discussions about regulations, technological safeguards, and public safety management during large drone events.

As we enter the 5th industrial revolution powered by artificial intelligence, the nature of accidents in this quick-paced technological era is evolving, posing new risks for large gatherings.

Regarding the Filmfare Awards, Abhishek Bachchan and Kartik Aaryan were jointly awarded Best Actor, while Alia Bhatt received Best Actress for her performance in ‘Jigra’.
