What Did Emraan Hashmi Discover While Binge Reading ‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 12 (NationPress) Actor Emraan Hashmi is preparing for the launch of his anticipated streaming series ‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’. He revealed the aspects of the series that piqued his interest, along with its intriguing premise. After the initial narration, he received 3-4 episodes and ended up binge reading them all.
In a conversation with IANS during the show's promotional activities, the actor expressed his fascination with the unique concept. The series offers a glimpse into the customs world, which immediately drew his attention.
He stated, “As a customs officer, this realm is quite unfamiliar. It’s not just new for me, but also for all the actors involved. Few actors in our nation have participated in a project that creatively investigates the smuggling and air travel sector. Therefore, when the narrative is fresh, it’s a significant advantage, as it transports the audience to an entirely new world and experience.”
The series traverses crucial smuggling routes through Al-Dera, Addis Ababa, Milan, and Bangkok, unveiling the intricate operations of the international smuggling network—a complex structure based on coded pathways, fraudulent manifests, and strategic misdirection. At its core is an elite customs task force operating at one of the busiest airports in India, the Mumbai International Airport, led by a team of steadfast officers: Arjun Meena (played by Emraan Hashmi), Mitali Kamath (played by Amruta Khanvilkar), Ravinder Gujjar (played by Nandish Singh Sandhu), and Prakash Kumar (played by Anurag Sinha). These officers depend on both intuition and intelligence, recognizing that a single overlooked detail can unravel weeks of careful monitoring.
“Additionally, within the thriller genre, Neeraj Pandey has introduced a distinctive twist with unexpected elements that catch you off-guard. I found these aspects extremely captivating during my initial reading. After Neeraj's narration, I received 4 or 5 episodes. I essentially binge read them and was completely convinced. I thought, yes, this is something I want to embrace wholeheartedly,” he added.
‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’ is set to premiere on Netflix on January 14, 2026.
