Mumbai, Oct 20 (NationPress) Renowned actress Farida Jalal once shared a poignant chapter from her past—her parents’ divorce and its profound effect on her formative years.

In a heartfelt appearance on the celebrity talk show “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,” Jalal disclosed that her parents parted ways when she was merely two years old. Following their separation, the court mandated that the children be enrolled in a boarding school. The ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ star revealed that her mother gained custody, an experience that significantly influenced her childhood. When questioned about her passion for acting, Farida Jalal mentioned that her entry into films was quite natural. With an intrinsic love for performing and storytelling, she felt a natural pull towards the stage.

Farida Jalal recounted, “As far back as I can remember, acting was always my ambition. Even as a child? Yes, I participated in numerous school dances. The event always featured an Indian dance by Farida Sami. My actual name is Farida Sami. My parents separated when I was just two years old. They had custody of the children, and the court decreed that we be placed in boarding school. My mother took custody.”

She continued, “That boarding school was run by a missionary organization. One thing they would ask me was, ‘First and foremost, Farida, translate the song into English. What does it mean?’ There was a song that went a bit like... ‘Come into the shade of my eyelids.’ They said, ‘No, no, no. You can't dance to that!’ So, another song was selected. Can you believe it? I performed to that!”

In 2021, Farida graced the show hosted by Farooq Shaikh.

With a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades, Farida Jalal has featured in over 200 films. She has become a beloved figure in some of Hindi cinema’s most iconic films, including “Raja Hindustani,” “Dil To Pagal Hai,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,” “Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai,” “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” and “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.”
