Filmmaker Subhash Ghai Admitted to ICU Following Speech Issues and Memory Challenges

Mumbai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai was hospitalized at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra on Saturday after reporting issues with speech and experiencing memory impairments.

Subhash Ghai arrived at the emergency department of Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre with complaints of speaking difficulties, confusion, and memory loss that had persisted for one day. His medical history indicates ischemic heart disease (s/p AVR 2009, CABG in 2011, and pacemaker insertion in 2011) and a recently identified case of hypothyroidism. He has been admitted to the ICU under the supervision of Dr. Rohit Deshpande. Initial CT angiography of the brain, chest, and abdomen, along with baseline blood tests, were generally acceptable for his age, prompting further evaluations. An ultrasound of the neck revealed signs consistent with thyroiditis requiring additional assessment. A transrectal ultrasound of the prostate indicated a heterogeneous hypoechoic lesion in the left lobe of the prostate gland, with a serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level exceeding 100. The patient is currently being assessed for paraneoplastic syndrome linked to the prostate lesion, and a PET-CT scan is scheduled for Monday,” stated the hospital.

Subhash Ghai (79) began his journey in Bollywood as an actor, taking on minor roles in films like ‘Taqdeer’ and ‘Aaradhna’.

He later starred in leading roles in movies such as ‘Umang’ and ‘Gumrah’, though his acting career did not achieve significant success, leading him to transition into directing.

His directorial debut was with ‘Kalicharan’, featuring Shatrughan Sinha in the lead role. The film achieved tremendous success, solidifying his status as a director.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he delivered numerous major hits as a director, collaborating multiple times with Dilip Kumar in films like ‘Vidhaata’, ‘Karma’, and ‘Saudaagar’.

He earned a Filmfare Award for Best Director for 'Saudaagar' and was instrumental in launching Jackie Shroff as a leading actor in the film ‘Hero’, which became a blockbuster.
