Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 17 (NationPress) Five individuals accused in the shooting incident outside renowned director Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai were brought before the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999) court.
The Mumbai police have requested the remand of these five accused. During the court proceedings, the police indicated that seven individuals, including the shooter, were apprehended on Monday in connection with the firing incident. They clarified that this group is distinct from the five individuals initially arrested for transporting vehicles and weapons from Pune to Mumbai.
The police aim to thoroughly investigate the case by confronting these two groups, and they seek to uncover who coordinated these operations, as well as the financial backing involved. Based on these grounds, the police requested the remand of the five, and the court remanded them to police custody until February 23.
To provide context, five gunshots were fired at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's home in Juhu. The Mumbai Crime Branch's investigation revealed that the vehicle utilized in the firing was obtained from Pune.
Previously, the Mumbai Crime Branch indicated that the suspect Subham Lonkar intended to instill fear in Mumbai, informing the arrested individuals that he planned to execute a significant act in the city. The apprehended suspects were in contact with the fugitive Subham Lonkar via a messaging app, and a transfer of Rs 40,000 was made to one of their accounts by Lonkar.
The vehicle used in the shooting belonged to a Pune resident who sold it to Aditya Gayki, one of the arrested suspects, for Rs 30,000 shortly before the incident. Subsequently, Gayki and another suspect, Samarth Pomaji, abandoned the vehicle at a predetermined location in Juhu, Mumbai. According to the Crime Branch, those who acquired the vehicle and came to Mumbai were unaware of the shooter's identity. It was later revealed that Shubham Lonkar directed the shooter to retrieve the vehicle from its abandoned location and open fire.
