Mumbai, Feb 5 (NationPress) In relation to the shooting incident that occurred outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty, the Mumbai Crime Branch has apprehended another suspect from Pune, bringing the total number of arrests in this case to five, as confirmed by police officials on Thursday.

The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell has taken into custody an individual identified as Asharam Fasle, who is accused of supplying the firearm to the individual responsible for the shooting.

With this latest arrest, five suspects are currently in police custody. All five will be presented before the court today for remand.

Previously, four suspects were taken into custody, whose police remand is set to conclude today. However, the actual shooter who fired the shots outside Rohit Shetty’s residence remains at large.

The Mumbai Police reported that Shubham Lonkar, a close associate of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and a wanted criminal, has allegedly targeted at least five prominent Bollywood figures. These figures have reportedly received threatening calls demanding extortion payments.

Despite the threats, none have formally reported the incidents to the police out of fear.

The shooting incident at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu bungalow took place last Sunday. Authorities investigating the matter have received intelligence indicating that many celebrities are reluctant to approach law enforcement. Investigators suspect that the primary aim of the shooting was to instill fear within the film industry.

A senior police officer noted that they have received reports of numerous threats made via phone calls, but individuals are hesitant to provide statements or file complaints. This lack of cooperation makes it challenging for the police to initiate action.

In one of Lonkar’s social media posts, alarming warnings were revealed. However, Rohit Shetty himself has stated that he has not received any threatening communications.

In his post, Lonkar stated: “Ram-Ram, Jai Bajrang Bali. We have warned Rohit Shetty multiple times not to interfere in our operations, yet he has ignored us. This was just the ‘trailer’. If he continues to disregard our warnings, the next shot won’t be fired outside his home—it will strike him directly. This serves as a warning to the entire Bollywood community. Correct your actions promptly.”

Multiple police teams have been deployed across various regions in search of the shooters. Officials believe that once the shooter is apprehended, the mastermind behind the attack will be identified.
