Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, March 28 (NationPress) Authorities in Rajasthan apprehended a shooter linked to the gunfire incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence following a police encounter in Sri Ganganagar.
The suspect, who was injured during the encounter, has disclosed connections to a significant criminal plot, including intentions to shoot outside the filmmaker's home in Mumbai.
The individual, identified as Akash (32), is purportedly an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and is currently receiving medical care at a district hospital under strict police supervision. The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 8 p.m. near the Sadhuwali check post.
According to law enforcement, Akash was operating a motorcycle without a license plate from Punjab when he was apprehended.
He reportedly fired three shots at the police, which resulted in retaliatory fire that left him with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Inspector General Om Prakash informed the media on Saturday that Akash is acting under the orders of gangster Arzoo Bishnoi, a prominent member of the Lawrence gang currently residing abroad.
He further stated that the suspect maintained constant communication with gang affiliates through social media and had been implicated in crimes across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab.
Superintendent of Police Harishankar indicated that initial investigations suggested Akash, in collaboration with his associate Shiva Gurjar, had accepted a contract to fire outside Rohit Shetty’s home in Mumbai.
This task was reportedly assigned by Arzoo Bishnoi, with both suspects coordinating their efforts through online channels.
Authorities noted that the Arzoo Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the earlier gunfire incident outside the filmmaker’s residence on January 31.
Akash is described as a professional shooter, primarily engaged in reconnaissance and execution of targeted assaults.
A resident of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, he has multiple legal cases filed against him in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan, including in Hanumangarh.
Known for conducting detailed surveillance before executing attacks, he had recently scouted locations in Sirsa (Haryana), Bhadra, and Gogamedi, according to investigators.
Shiva Gurjar, aged 20, was detained on March 23 from Jaipur Central Jail based on a production warrant.
He is alleged to have participated in reconnaissance activities and supplied weapons.
Law enforcement stated that both suspects were operating under the guidance of Arzoo Bishnoi, while imprisoned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi ostensibly provided the targets.
Currently, Akash is receiving treatment at a government hospital in Sri Ganganagar, where extensive security measures have been implemented.
Authorities are interrogating both suspects to uncover further insights into their network and planned attacks.
