Chandigarh, Jan 25 (NationPress) An associate of Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang has been apprehended in relation to a shooting incident that occurred in Dera Bassi, Punjab, according to police reports released on Saturday.

The suspect has been named as Mehfuj, also known as Vishal Khan, who hails from Dera Bassi.

Authorities have also seized a .32 caliber pistol and five cartridges from his possession.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced: "In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Mohali Police, has detained an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang."

DGP Yadav further stated that the accused, along with another member of the gang named Manjeet, who is currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail, were the key figures behind the shooting incident in Dera Bassi.

Reports indicate that on September 19, 2024, two individuals on a motorcycle brazenly opened fire outside the immigration center in Dera Bassi, attempting to extort money from the owner.

Additional Director General of Police with the AGTF, Promod Ban, shared that actionable intelligence regarding the possible hideouts of Vishal Khan was received.

In a prompt response, special teams from AGTF, under the guidance of AIG Gurmeet Chauhan and in coordination with Senior Superintendent of Police (Mohali) Deepak Pareek, were dispatched to target the identified hideouts and successfully apprehended him at the Punjab-Haryana border near Barwala, along with the recovery of a firearm.

Assistant Inspector General Gurmeet Chauhan noted that the accused has a history of criminal activities and has been operating under the instructions of the foreign-based terrorist Goldy Brar since 2023.

The apprehended individual has also received a shipment of weapons from the infamous gangster Joginder, also known as Joga, from Haryana, who had previously assisted in providing arms and support for the individuals involved in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case and was subsequently arrested.
