Los Angeles, Jan 7 (NationPress) Hollywood actress Florence Pugh, who garnered significant acclaim for her performance in Ari Aster's directorial piece ‘Midsommar’, has expressed that she is unlikely to portray a character akin to that in ‘Midsommar’.
Explaining her reasoning, the actress mentioned that she feels as though she abused herself while embodying the film's lead character, Dani, a deeply grieving American woman who experiences a psychological collapse during a trip to a Swedish midsummer festival with her unhealthy boyfriend, as reported by ‘Variety’.
Florence made this disclosure in a recent conversation on the ‘Reign with Josh Smith’ podcast. She shared that she has “learned how to” safeguard herself as an actor over the years, which includes recognizing when she simply cannot undertake a role again.
“There are roles where I’ve given too much and have felt broken for a long time afterwards,” the actress reflected. “For instance, during ‘Midsommar’, I certainly felt as though I abused myself in the depths to which I plunged.”
“The process of understanding these experiences requires acknowledging, ‘Alright, I can’t go there again because that was excessive’,” she continued. “Yet, when I review that performance, I feel genuinely proud of what emerged from within me. I hold no regrets. But, yes, there are aspects of yourself that you must honor.”
According to ‘Variety’, any form of abuse that Pugh encountered during the filming of ‘Midsommar’ was purely self-imposed.
She has expressed nothing but admiration for director Ari Aster, stating to The New York Times last year that he is “peculiar in a mad genius sort of way” and “a stand-up comedian at heart”.
She added, “Once you find humor in one thing, he will endeavor to make you laugh at all the other elements. He keeps pushing until everyone is laughing uncontrollably.”
